You know the drill. It’s a busy morning at the office, patients are in the chair, and suddenly your Sensei Cloud scanner just stops working. No warning, no error — your Input Device list is blank. You try refreshing Chrome, restarting the PC, maybe even rebooting the bridge. Nothing.
So, you call Sensei support again. They walk you through uninstalling and reinstalling the bridge — again — and everything starts working… until the next day when it stops, again.
Sound familiar? You’re not alone.
At Computer Solutions, Inc., we’ve been helping dental offices across Savannah and the Coastal Empire deal with this exact issue. The good news? It’s usually not a hardware problem — it’s Chrome.
The Real Culprit: Chrome Permissions
Here’s what’s really going on. Sensei Cloud uses a small helper program called the CSD Phoenix Acquisition Launcher (sometimes called the “imaging bridge”). This bridge connects your Sensei Cloud software to your local scanner, such as your Xerox DocuMate or other TWAIN-compatible devices.
But Chrome — being security-minded — blocks local applications and network connections until you give explicit permission.
If Chrome decides to block those permissions or forgets them after an update, your scanner simply disappears from the list. No error, no alert — it just stops showing up.
Quick Tip: Try Guest Mode Before Calling Support
Before calling Sensei support again, try this quick test:
1. Open Google Chrome.
2. Click the three dots (⋮) in the top-right corner and select New Guest Window.
3. Visit https://gosensei.us and log in.
4. Try scanning again.
If the scanner suddenly works in Guest Mode, you’ve just proven that your bridge is fine — Chrome’s user permissions are the problem.
Permanent Fix for Chrome Users
Here’s how to fix it for your regular user profile (so you don’t have to keep switching to Guest Mode):
1. Open Chrome.
2. In the address bar, type:
chrome://settings/content/siteDetails?site=https%3A%2F%2Fgosensei.us%2F
3. Scroll down to the Permissions section and change the following:
- Local network access → Allow
- Pop-ups and redirects → Allow
- Automatic downloads → Allow
- Protocol handlers → Allow sites to ask to handle protocols
4. Go back to https://gosensei.us and click “Scan Document.”
- When prompted to open the application, check “Always allow gosenesi.us to open links of this type.”
- When prompted to connect to local devices, click “Allow.”
After that, your scanner should appear immediately under Input Device and work every time you open Chrome.
Why It Keeps Happening
Every time Chrome updates or user settings reset, these permissions can get lost or silently blocked. Guest Mode always starts fresh — which is why it seems to magically fix the problem — but regular profiles keep cached settings, including old “Block” permissions.
That’s why the scanner keeps disappearing, even when Sensei support reinstalls everything correctly.
